Krill Oil and Your Joints: Research Reveals the Impact of Joint Health on Whole Health and Quality of Life

Throughout our lives, our joints and bones are in a constant state of change. Whether it is the generation of new tissue or bones, or the natural changes in cartilage integrity as we age, the essential parts of our bodies that are necessary for movement are in a constant state of flux. But more than that, when joint health is compromised, so are all other aspects in our lives, such as work, family, and recreation.

A study published by Health Union sought to better understand the impact of joint health on quality of life. Over 3,500 people for whom joint health is a major health goal were surveyed. Of those people, ninety-four percent stated that their ability to work, perform household tasks, and participate in other daily life activities has been greatly affected. Only thirty-seven percent of those polled reported being able to work full-time with seventy-five percent stating that they needed additional help with household tasks such as cleaning. The study went on to examine the financial impact of joint health in those polled. A staggering thirty-eight percent stated they were unable to afford the medications necessary to help manage their symptoms.*

For those who strive to meet joint health goals, supplements, such as krill oil, have become an increasingly popular option.

Krill Oil and Joint Health

The importance of marine-based Omega-3 fatty acids, such as those found in krill oil, have been known for quite some time. Studies continue to reveal just how krill oil can help promote overall health, including joint health. A recent study revealed that marine-based Omega-3 helped to support multiple markers of joint health. Researchers attributed their findings to the marine Omega-3 fatty acids interacting with naturally occurring arachidonic acid (Omega-6) in the body.*

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to supporting joint health and flexibility, and they can also increase the bioavailability of other joint health supporting supplements. NKO Flex was designed specifically with this in mind. Based on the original NKO formula, which combines Omega 3 (EPA and DHA) and the antioxidant astaxanthin, NKO Flex contains additional ingredients to better support joint health and flexibility. These include:

• Vitamin D:
Helps in the development and maintenance of bones and teeth by promoting absorption of calcium and phosphorus. When combined with NKO, Vitamin D digestion is increased up to two times.

• Strontium:
Helps in the development and maintenance of bones.*

• Zinc:
Supports healthy connective tissue formation and bone health.*

There are multiple issues at play when discussing and trying to understand joint health. Quality of life and the supplements that help maintain joint comfort are just two pieces of the puzzle. As we continue to learn more about joint health, findings regarding the benefits of krill oil will also continue to grow.
